I think we underestimate things that are seemingly overrated sometimes simply because we think that underrated things deliver more depth - but here’s the thing: who cares 

Depth is depth - underrated or not

Isn’t it part of our very nature to seek things others haven’t noticed ? Things that are not accessible to everyone ?

“Underestimate things that are seemingly overrated” is snobbery. 
It’s also true that finding depth in the mainstream is never easy.
