Do work you would do for free If that’s hard, do work that would allow you to do more work for free

Ok but also make sure to understand that the work you do is not free of value It’s not for free

Two weeks into my new job, as I wrote a Google sheets macro, I realised, “wait this is the first time I’m actually getting paid to do the shit I did for fun over the weekend” Indeed, when I tell people how I learnt to do the stuff I do at my job, I say “yeah in my previous job I ran a magazine but I did coding / data projects on the weekend” And I’ve recently realised that one of my side projects from last year could save hundreds of hours of work at the company too Lesson: do stuff

Wise words and I understood the whole idea from just the first cast (but enjoyed all of them) and relate to it greatly as it is my goal. It was a big first step to figure out the goal. Making small progress - mostly hampered by being on here too much, unfortunately. So I'm going to disappear for a bit.

i do work for free when I know it benefits me and has future purpose. I've done a few years of it, even paid to keep doing it

This is a lot of the motivation I find in embracing the -1 to 0 in entrepreneurship b/c a lot of it is in pursuit of finding problems worth pursuing and work you want to spend hours doing

You need a Wittgenstein style lang to briefly show what's in your mind ;-) But for now, all is well, message delivered.

i once did a year-long experiment where i didn’t do any work that i wouldn’t do anyways for free. it was a huge turning point, and i’ve never looked back. i also started making more money. recommend
