Hello y'all -- an update on @faust, and where things are with Roc: A few months ago, we announced that we're building Roc (what we call a reality oracle computer). We've been hard at work on it for the past few months, and it is taking a lot longe than we thought. So, in the mean time we've decided to build a smaller scope version beta dev kit of it that we'll be announcing soon. We'll have more details soon, but here are some thoughts around the progress below: https://warpcast.com/july/0xfdc33e31

Especially with the rise of Generative AI - and misinformation on the internet in general, I've been fascinated by this question of "how do you create something that is real?" I think in many ways, we don't have this issue in the real world. When you are in the real world, like a simple object like a frying pan is real. You can hold the handle in your hand, and you can use it to do stuff. When you give the physical frying pan to others, they have it and they can do whatever they want wth it. If you forget your frying pan at home, reality is pretty unforgiving, you won't be able to create another frying pan on the fly, and lets say compared to a digital photo of a frying pan, you can't just arbitrarily ship a frying pan across the world, where as a photo of a frying pan you can.

While the question of why one would build this Roc is a good question (I'll honestly skip this one because why we're doing this is more in the thread above, and it hasn't changed too much since the last time I casted about this) -- the question that I want to explore more here is around how is this going to work It took us a few months to think through what it is that we're building, and while "notarize reality" sounds cool in principle, it was initially quite vague to us (and still is in many ways). So we've narrowed it down and made it simple, and that's what we're going to be starting off with and announcing soon

Anyway we'll be announcing more soon, but we will open some early Roc devices available for folks to pre-order in the near future (and some others that have previously already pre-ordered) Excited to see where this goes!

Also, separate @payton had a good thought on this recently, and the Roc follows / buys into this thesis generally speaking: https://warpcast.com/payton/0xcf41d647

was just thinking about Roc b/c it makes too much sense to have press photographers on a social network, who can immediately prove what is ultimately the most expressive & timely medium for historic events. https://x.com/m_j_rossman/status/1830297962129625478

Yes I can see many (micro) events that could use this concept of notarized reality. It is definitely a fascinating direction. Congrats for these forward moves !
