This makes me think of The Last Question by Asimov. You may have already read it, but it had an intriguing take on this topic. A person asks a super computer: "How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased? And it takes billions of years for the future computer to come up with an answer.

I think about the mysterious nature of unobserved light, the uncertainty of our faculties, the intuition of my soul, the infinite nature of smallness and though the end is presumed, I can't imagine it is not the beginning somehow
