When you try to package deeply personal philosophies and authentic experiences you have lived, or desire to live into neat LinkedIn bullet points and/or values -- something, i don't know what it is, something - gets lost. It's like trying to explain why a joke is funny, it's not funny anymore

i.e. being "formidable" isn't something you can reduce to a handbook or mission statement. It comes from: - What you do - What you say when no one is around - What you read - What you eat in the morning or don't It comes from -- who you are

Reminds me of a story about a map made so detailed it ceases to be a map and instead becomes a mirror - the opposite can be true too; a map too refined is just a piece of parchment

Interesting..I think condensing a philosophy into a bullet point or mantra is useful. But agree, much is lost. I think that's why seemingly simple quotes like "less is more" take years to really understand. And then they can be understood over and over in different ways.

gosh there are too many interesting ideas here… Ok, some thoughts: - the lossyness of a map is a feature, not a bug - a map is not to be used as a hammer (nor is the world made of opportunities shaped as nails) - make it as simple as possible but not simpler (paraphrasing some smart guy)
