what are the fundamental drivers behind this @july ? wondering what it takes for other countries to try to replicate (if that's even possible)

- Top down state approach to setting goals and accomplishing them (without much opposition, i.e. authoritarianism
- Focusing those goals on becoming a leader in STEM related projects
- Large population base, ~past 30 years has gone from low income and many below the poverty line, to solidly middle class

Ty!! I'm trying to understand the nature of the authoritarianism.

What does this actually look like in action? Does it simply mean funneling state resources toward these goals? Or are there other substantially coercive aspects to the authoritarianism? If it's the former, that doesn't seem to intrinsically unique to China (tho the scale they're doing it on is unique)
