Morph settlement refers to the completion of second-level transactions at the Ethereum level. It includes the crucial step of verifying second-level states. For this, Morph uses optimistic zkEVM, a hybrid approach that combines the best of optimistic rollups and zk-rollups. Level 2 states will ultimately be finally validated by a much shorter challenge period or, if a challenge is received, by an appropriate zk-proof. The Morph architecture is defined by five key roles: Sequencers, Validators, Nodes, Provers, and Layer 1 (Ethereum). Each role has specific responsibilities and utilizes different components to perform its functions, contributing to the smooth operation of the network.
