This is what an incident at 40k RPS looks like … sigh*

Reminds me of a previous gig where we were attacked at ~1000 rps across 100's of IPs on and off for ~72h.

The good part: we had ddos protection w/aws shield, so no downtime.
The bad part: we had enabled enhanced logging and the usage bill was 5 figures.

yikes...i had an incident where an engineer on my team accidentally wrote an infinite loop that was spinning up ec2 instances over and over for...awhile. luckily, the script was written in ruby and did a lot of stuff each iteration and ran pretty slowly, so the damage was kept to 4 figures 😅

That’s not DDoS! That an attack by Deny of Wallet!

Now it’s interesting to take that in consideration of what cost more, being down that time or being up lol
