I’m consistently surprised by just how good the median food/drink experience is for everything in Japan.

In Japan I rarely check reviews anymore. It’s really more, “hm…what do I want to eat.” and go to 1 of 3 of that genre of food within walking distance.

Restaurant quality and quantity is great here.

hmm, ignoring cost, shibuya is high ev. 

Hipster: shimo kitazawa
Cool: Daikanyama, naka meguro
High end: Toranomon / Azabu
Culture / shopping: shibuya
Urban / gritty: shinjuku

Good thing is you can get anywhere fast and cheaply on trains. Lot of folks stay cheap in asakusa and train into shibuya.

Whole heartedly agree. 

A "bad" experience there is always like "I don't like this texture" or "we've been out too late" but never "they don't take care of us" or "they don't know what they're doing" etc.

Hey John, idk if you've talked or are good talking about this but I wonder, why did you moved to japan? I've always seen so many good things about japan (and also bad things, but they are a small %)

one observation i made in asian countries (japan, singapore) is that ratings are generally lower here compared to western countries, even when the food is great. this might be because people in asia are more critical and generally have higher expectations?

That sounds amazing! It's incredible how consistent the quality is, making it so easy to enjoy a good meal without needing to do much research. It must feel liberating to choose based on what you're craving and know you won't be disappointed. Now, I'm craving some authentic Japanese cuisine!

Food quality and variety trump reviews in Japan.

Shinkuju is the one of the best place for try if anyone wanna have authentic Japanese cuisine experience
