the only people against unions are ultra-rich

for everybody else unions are always net positive

hence unions should have overwhelming public support

but they don't

and this says a lot about our society in general

I took Labor Law in law school, and it's pretty devastating how much the protections of private sector unions have been eroded in the US

It's so bad that I don't think unions are necessarily the right approach for collective bargaining. The law just favors employers. 

Public sector is an entirely different mess
