i’ve been a gamer my entire life. my family is full of gamers. all of my friends? they too are life-long gamers i’m also building a game, and spend most of my time doing so. as such, i’ve researched gaming history & its communities extensively; i’ve been in the discords, in the forums, the lobbies, etc. in fact, i’ve been openly conducting market research in the space & talking to many of its constituents for the last two years my biggest takeaway after all of this time, and one that i can now say with 100% confidence is: gamers are undoubtedly some of the worst people in existence all i can say is: i understand i understand why bobby opts to please his shareholders over his players. i understand why EA doesn’t care that they’re constantly voted the most hated company in america. & i understand why every mobile developer immediately optimizes for profitability over gameplay or any other initiative and that’s because the happiness of the player simply does not matter

you see, gamers will bitch & complain either way. if the game is perfect, they will flame the devs because it’s too perfect. if it sucks, then they’ll complain of then AND then they’ll meme is infinitely for you because of how bad it it (the worst games are usually very successful for this very reason). any influencer or streamer in this space will tell you that: if you hate the game, stop playing it - stop buying the skins, stop giving them money but they won’t they won’t stop playing OR paying - they’ll continue to do both WHILE still complaining and bitching about it the whole time in the forums and across social which is just beneficial to the game so at the end of the day, the devs mind as well take their wallets because they’ll never get their happiness and they sure as hell won’t get their support we’ve done it to ourselves and it won’t change bc gamers are inherently entitled brats

such a shit pill to swallow especially because i started my game and designed it specifically to combat the greed that killed our industry but the reality is: locusts no different than crypto users. crypto actually faces a lot of the same problems as the gaming industry but that’s a story for a different day

what made you write this? was there a specific event or something that triggered you over the limit? i don’t have understanding or experience of what you refer to, but i felt it in every word. thank you and thank you for being truthful to what you believe in. keep going. we need it

not necessarily. just what i’ve come to understand. i already knew this but building at this intersection is a constant struggle, but this is what i chose >crypto people hate it bc there’s no token >gamers hate it because there’s a “blockchain” the annoying part is that i could give a shit less about either of these things. i’m building a game: A GAME, but we rarely get to anything game related when discussing because i have to defend the entire crypto industry and myself it just gets exhausting having hordes of people—the very people who you’re trying to build trust with—scream “SCAM” at you everyday like i just had one guy find my linkedin, saw that i had started my own web3 consultancy a couple years back, posted it and then used that to attack me and le game - so maybe that sent me haha wildly absurd amounts of crypto hatred in the gaming community

wild. and they are like just non funded accusations that arise from a subconscious association of crypto with scam? thats a hard bone to chew for sure is anyone like grateful and happy and just vibing with it? lmao. i am. it’s hard for me to remember to go to discord (barely use it) so thats why I’m not more active though

tbf most "web3 gaming" seems to be a crappy game lazily bolted to a crappy ponzu and even without crypto, lots of gamers despise the lootbox casinoification of gaming i think there are some real interesting possibilities with nft integration as portable assets across games but there's also a lot of technical problems to solve and most people will focus on what exists as opposed to what could be but tbh basil is right but it also has to do with the simple math of the loudest gamers being under socialized teens with minimal emotional maturity, because that's who has to be time to both play more and post more
