Without knowing which part of this question you're asking "why?" to and without being at all informed about the US or LA job markets

1) Wages have stagnated for about 30-40 years and, among many things, this has also led to older workers staying in the workforce longer, putting pressure on entry and maneuverability

2) Jobs being delegated offshore at an increasing rate

3) Here in my country, the number of graduates far exceeds the number of suitable positions available in the job market - universities are not properly catering to market needs in almost all professions/industries 

4) In my experience, it generally pays to be kind to others. Even more so to those in your industry or in industry-adjacent roles
