going to share a story because it's insane i booked an Airbnb. checked in Dec 30--much worse than the pictures, but otherwise uneventful. the next night, right after the New Year's celebration, i come back to find a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PARTY in my airbnb. this is where it gets interesting...

i stand in the open doorway. 8 or 9 people inside, drinking, smoking, Migos playing on the TV. lady with big hoop earrings and i lock eyes. after a short, ridiculous, hilarious conversation i realize that she has a VALID BOOKING for the same unit. has been talking to the same airbnb host.

i message the host, gather my stuff, call Airbnb support. i'm hanging out on the couch. they offer me a beer (lmao) Airbnb support is initially helpful and reasonable. "send a photo," they say. i send several. after a few minutes, I leave and go to a hotel to sleep

next day the host calls me, tells me the other party was supposed to go the "downstairs unit". (upstairs is the only obvious door and neither are labelled) OK, that's between you and them, but I'm in a hotel now & need a refund. he says something about airbnb support and hangs up. ever since then...

i am basically ghosted by Airbnb...? call them > call center, heavy accent, "please wait while i transfer you to our special team" > 🎶 > every two minutes "sorry the line is busy, are you still there?" > 🎶 tried on Tuesday, gave up after ~an hour trying again now

epilogue: they refunded me $957 of the original $1,991 (which means the one night i actually stayed there cost a cool g) they initially tried to refund even less. pursuing it further is a waste of life force nice, very nice

If you used a credit card, I'd recommend disputing it with them. I had to do this with Airbnb last summer and I got refunded.
