I've cycled through different lifting routines. My favorite has been 3 days per week, for squats, bench press, and deadlift, with auxiliaries mixed in. E.g. squats + lunges + calf raises, bench + shoulder press + tricep pulldowns, deadlifts + rows + pull ups, but mixing those up each week.
