I’m struck by the idea that the cult of productivity is not necessarily a personal struggle, it’s a societal one. 

We’ve created a social infrastructure and culture that values efficiency and output above all else, and it’s killing us.

This is an excerpt from a novel published in 1935. Productivity cult is so ingrained in the US cultural history (and it’s been highly exported to the rest of the world).

I just read “Slow Productivity” by Cal Newport this week while traveling and much of his thesis is about knowledge workers and the busy work and long hours we feel obligated to log to prove we are being productive. Looking forward to reading some of your articles!
