Today, the Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index dropped to 10, a new low since June 2022, and the market as a whole fell into a state of panic. The official website stated that Extreme fear can be a sign that investors are too worried. That could be a buying opportunity.

A Chinese man was killed while trading cryptocurrency at a luxury hotel in Jeju City, South Korea. South Korean police have arrested four Chinese suspects. The four people took away the victim's 85 million won in cash and absconded.

Bybit hackers have used a large number of addresses to exchange 37,900 ETH (106 million USD) for BTC and other assets through Chainflip, THORChain, LiFi, DLN, and eXch. The Bybit hacker address currently has 461,491 ETH (1.29 billion USD), and the total amount of ETH stolen from Bybit is 499,395 (1.4 billion USD).

According to FT, the University of Austin in the United States is raising a $5 million Bitcoin fund for its $200 million endowment fund, becoming the first such fund in the United States. Chad Thevenot, senior vice president of development at the school, said that the crypto asset portfolio will be held for at least five years.

Orbiter announced its sponsorship of Donald Trump's inauguration speech, after its TGE. The first donation has already been transferred to the smart contract wallet for Trump's token on Solana using Orbiter's OmniChain interoperability protocol. Orbiter has committed to continue making donations throughout Trump's presidency.

The U.S. announced that the monthly rate of CPI after seasonal adjustment in December was 0.4%, which was expected to be 0.30% and the previous value was 0.30%. The annual rate of CPI in December was 2.9% and the previous value was 2.70%. The annual rate of CPI without seasonal adjustment in December in the United States rebounded for the third consecutive month to the highest level since July 2024. The U.S. unadjusted core CPI annual rate was 3.2% in December, the lowest since August 2024, and market expectations remained unchanged at 3.3%.

The US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has issued an opinion in cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase’s civil case with the SEC, finding the regulator’s decision to deny rulemaking was “arbitrary and capricious.” Coinbase’s appeal stemmed from a 2022 request for the SEC to create “rules to govern the regulation of securities that are offered and traded via digitally native methods, including potential rules to identify which digital assets are securities.”

Officials said that INR (Indian rupee) withdrawals were not affected and all funds were safe.

The USD0/USD0++ Pool ratio on Curve, with a TVL of $245 million, has been severely tilted, and the LP Token price has fallen to $0.9568.
