It's amazing how much effort Ayn Rand gave to understanding people that hate her.

I bought the book, but it’s too long. Is it better than the fountainhead?

Wow, just finished The Fountainhead. I can see why a book from 1943 is regaining in popularity. The themes in her book are playing out right before our eyes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NLzc9kobDk&ab_channel=LexFridman Wow, it's crazy that there were poverty managers that take a cut out of the money that was supposed to be given to the poor. Also, his eyes speak volumes.

"He's not really struggling even for material wealth, but for the second-hander's delusion--prestige. A stamp of approval, not his own. He can find no joy in the struggle and no joy when he has succeeded." "Then he wonders why he's unhappy. Every form of happiness is private. Our greatest moments are personal, self-motivated, not to be touched. The things which are sacred or precious to us are the things we withdraw from promiscuous sharing. But now we are taught to throw everything within us into public light and common pawing."

Working thought: Meritocracy is a spectrum that can mean aristocracy to autocracy.

Was just thinking that a lot of people are on anti-depressants, and that means that we are normalizing hating one's life. https://warpcast.com/shawki/0x5178c2f8

I suppose a third is Mimetic theory from Girard, but this is similar to Ayn Rand's second handers.

I've heard two theories as to how NPCs become NPCs. One from Carl Jung which was that they never encountered impossible problems. The other from Ayn Rand which was that they are second handers.

Wynand reminds me of Bezos because they both own a yacht and a media company. Roark reminds me of Elon because of his determination to do the work.

How I imagine the transition from collectivism to individualism will look like. Instead of individuals fitting to systems, systems will fit to individuals. There will be many systems, and it will look like a choose your own adventure game. We will start to compare systems, and this will look very different than what we know. Because there is only one system, we run into the problem of having false dichotomies such as success or failure because everyone is measured by the same standard. In a world where systems fit to individuals, we will wonder if there was any potential left to actualize.

I liked Burnham's point that history is best told through the lens of the elite rather than the majority or the great man because they are the ones with the most impact. It got me thinking about what would the world look like if tech became the new elite, and today, I think found a hint in this article that talks about the two philosophies in tech: replace humans or expand the possibilities. Aggregator vs Platform. https://stratechery.com/2018/techs-two-philosophies/
