FYI: @coinbase and @base have done a bunch of consumer research and "onchain" outperforms every other word that people use for crypto if you're using blockchain, web3, crypto, etc, find a way to switch to onchain and you will be more successful

i agree -- but web3 has always felt like a different term to me, since working at Protocol Labs -- hurts to let the term go akin to this gem from @fredwilson.eth -- https://avc.com/2024/01/read-write-own/

I wanted to ask u a question Jesse. Ive heard you sharing this insight and also kinda taking a blow at "web3" as a term, is it from a pure metrics stand point, or do you not believe in the narrative behind the term (i associate it to chris dixon "read write own" personally but maybe im wrong).

I think I kind of get what you try to say, but in what context? What does "outperforms" and "more successful" mean in this research? Quantitative metrics like a higher % of conversion using base defi or coinbase wallet? Buying more NFTs/crypto? Or more qualitative, like positive attitude towards coinbase products?

For what audience? I can see it resonating with people who are already in this space, but if I'm talking to a VC which invests in media tech startups, not so sure if onchain would land the same way Web3/blockchain would, but I could be way wrong there. I'm 100% sure crypto wouldn't fly with them though, haha

when I’m trying to basepill non-web3 artists, my pitch goes a little something like: “NFTs are inaccessible million dollar monkey jpegs” “Onchain media, however, is a whole world of art, music, animation, video, poetry, prose, & more - with easy ways for creators to earn money/build community” it works!

Thanks for the insight Jesse. We always use blockchain, crypto and web3 in our messaging but it makes sense to replace that with “onchain”. Keep leading the charge!
