base is open and permissionless, and while we're incubating at coinbase (like many other networks incubate at a labs!), we have a deep commitment to decentralization. why? because we believe a global onchain economy that increases innovation, creativity, and freedom is only possible on a decentralized platform.
right from the start, coinbase and base agreed on neutrality principles to ensure user autonomy over their crypto, unbiased transaction sequencing on base, discretion with non-public data, and unrestricted withdrawals from base. and for the last year, we've been laser-focused on reaching Stage 1 decentralization and we'll be sharing more on that very soon.
I also think there's work to do to keep building base as its own, established brand and ecosystem that feels separate and distinct from coinbase, while also leveraging all the great goodness that comes from the collaboration. we have some fun things coming on this soon :) 2 replies
