around hour 3 of what turned out to be 7 (and is normally only 2), gmaps offered the side road option. do these pileups happen enough that it’s fully automated or are there humans in the loop?

and a bunch of us took the side road option and turned out to not be any faster but maybe the algo optimizes for *everyone* getting home a little faster by getting some traffic on an alt route?
