My personal $0.02 is you are free to do so and deserve to be compensated… but in my mind @botornot serves you better remaining a public utility. Trust me, people don’t forget the value/entertainment you provide.

This is a good question and for transparency sake:

Yes /bot-or-not costs me quite a bit. Since launch (2 weeks) I've spent  $500+ on the checks and summary gen via Anthropic. This runs when you click the action.

There's caching but /bot-or-not is clocking about 15k checks a day and 2k DAUs so it's adding up.

I totally hear ya but it’s just not sustainable for me to fund personally. See cast below about why I did this. I may retroactively take away the pay wall if I find a way to fund it as a public good but for now just asking for $3 from people to keep the lights on!

I believe that, and hope you know that wasn’t a criticism.. you absolutely deserve compensation. I’m just brainstorming whether we might think of another route to effectively generate revenue. Need to marinate on that a bit… maybe channels could leverage the bot as a policing mechanism and contribute a retainer.

I think the direction I'm going to ultimately head in is relying less on the definitive bot or notness (that's a v tough problem) and more on quickly surfacing summaries for people to decide if that's what they jive with or not.
