The anti-humanism of the radical environmental movement is associated with the 1960s, but it was present in intellectual currents decades earlier. This is from c. 1948:

Why is it bad to “talk your book” but good to “put your money where your mouth is”

However, that's out of 119 miles that are under construction, out of 171 miles of the “initial operating segment”, out of ~500 miles in Phase 1. They don't even plan to begin testing trains until 2028, and passenger service is not expected until 2030–33.

Update: this is not literally all that has been built. 119 miles are “under construction”. Dozens of structures such as the one pictured above have been completed, and 56 miles of guideway have been completed.

This is apparently what the CA high-speed rail project has built so far. “Nearly 1,600 feet long”

“Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing” is a simple go-to for many otherwise inexplicable behaviors. It's the org version of “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”

“Why did they decide to do that stupid thing?!” • Some people didn't know • Others didn't agree but got overruled • What they executed on is not what they planned

Three faulty assumptions people make when trying to understand the behavior of organizations: • Perfect internal communication • Perfect internal alignment • Perfect execution on strategy/plans If you assume these you will often be confused at the behavior of organizations.

Crypto is the mathematical version of, “Can God create a rock so big that he can't lift it?” “Is there an encryption algorithm so strong that it can't be broken?” No matter what the answer, there is one angle from which it's a failure and one from which it's a triumph.

The time's ripe for someone to fork Wikipedia. Imagine: clean executive summary for every article; omnibar search that answers your questions; Community Notes mechanic for ground truth on contentious issues. https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1780929268949614848 '''''''''''

Your skin and hair degrade, you lose your strength and memory, you become more susceptible to cancer and infection, and then you die. Sounds like a disease to me? If if only happened to 1% of people instead of 100%, wouldn't it seem like a disease?
