I’m reminded of many rituals / ceremonies around the world that celebrate 1st years, or other milestones especially because many wouldn’t make it past that stage. This is an interesting take that takes into account the emotional attachment perspective of child mortality in the context of rituals

I always remember my grandmother talking about losing a couple of her siblings like it wasn't a huge deal,you just expected it to happen.
