This week in /frens I shipped connect to external wallets. Also dove into wallet authentication and was reminded of why I hate wallet connect.

This week was a battle with my inner perfectionist at /frens. Needed to constantly remind myself to always work on the most important problem, and not aim for completeness. - Improved transaction stability - Improved error handling to make users feel safe

Did some onchain data wrangling this week at /frens Some takeaways from POV of an app builder: 1. It's difficult to find the right APIs that returns all the data that you need 2. Often need to cobble together multiple endpoints 3. Pricing related data is unreliable. A fallback API is may be warranted.

I start by doing a brain dump all in Roam. I tried notebooks previously, but my handwriting is atrocious. Big fan of breadboarding and fat marker sketches for this stage https://basecamp.com/shapeup/1.3-chapter-04#fat-marker-sketches

1. Interrogate why I might be in a rut - Do I understand the problem and its constraints? - Do I understand the solution space? 2. Identify the critical piece of the problem that's causing the most difficulty 3. Don't reinvent the wheel. In >95% of cases, there's an existing solution or design pattern. Understand how competitors or other analogues approach similar problems. 4. Reduce the problem down to its essence. Break it down to its key elements and flows without getting caught up in visuals. 5. Seek "good enough" solutions. Time box. Don't let perfection get in the way of the good.

Thanks @cameron for putting some amazing designers in the /lounge My cofounder @jpren.eth introduced me to Farcaster in 2022. I felt the pain of building on Twitter's API a few years ago and was immediately intrigued by Farcaster's openness. Three highlights: 1. Self-taught designer (my background was in aerospace engineering) 2. Designed an app for an optical ground station for the German Aerospace Center 3. Designed edtech products used by 95% of schools in the US I'm currently working on /frens, though mostly in an engineering capacity these days. One thing that inspired me this month: Claude Artifacts! On the surface, it looks deceptively simple, but it really stands out with complex prompts. It's a great reminder that a product can be simple yet immensely powerful.
