I think they are in the lab cooking up ai tools that will be released and surpass or be equivalent to the gpt large language models we currently have on the market. 

All the tools currently released are incomplete and still in development with constant updates and changes. Apple doesn’t release incomplete products or products that can get them in legal trouble (the copyright storm of lawsuits against openAI and others is coming). 

They are potentially waiting for the dust to settle and see how people are reacting to/ using current models before they launched their product. They did this with smartphones.

But what do I know. I could be wrong, I’m a bit of an Apple fan boy and a stock holder so I’m biased.
