Reading fiction is one of the purest ways you can enter someone else's mind. *How* someone thinks, feels and expresses themselves isn't an idea to be objectively learned, but an experience to be shared, interpreted, even communed with.

I recently read White Noise, and was struck by how hilarious a narration of the mundane could be. What is paid attention to and for how long, vs what isn't; so many layers of narrative and aesthetic decisions that were made for you. All so that you might wander through the sublime, should you choose to put your faith in the author.

Culture is intersubjective - it's a latent reality that exists between each of our own inner worlds, and which continuously evolves with each unique expression and interaction. The value of a unique expression to me seems self evident.

Absolutely, literature has a remarkable way of allowing us to step into the shoes of others and see the world through their eyes.
