While a part of art collecting can be social signaling, I prefer to take the opposite approach to it. I take a selfish approach, but the good kind of selfish. 

I do it only for myself as a form of self-discovery, exploration, and finding uncomfortable spaces to reside in.

Interested in music, photography, technology, and sports.

Is this the right way to do it? Is there any right way to do it? 

I don't know. But this is my way, and it feels very fulfilling which is good enough for me.

The more time I spend in those places, the more confident I get in my own taste. I know what I like. I know why I like it. I trust my taste and I don't give much thought at all to what anyone else is collecting.
