not sure what we’re mad about here or why “web3 gaming” is still hung up on the “interoperability” narrative in the year 2024 no one plays game A because they want to eventually take that character into game B - that does not make any sense at all from a game design POV this is just a silly metaverse talking point that ads nothing except problems & in fact, further deters everyday gamers with annoying crypto jargon when are we going to learn that the things that excite us, as crypto people, DO NOT translate to everyday folks “WHY CANT I TAKE IT OUT OF THE ECO?!” because this fundamentally goes against everything we know about game design… i can’t buy a gun in CoD & then take it into WoW. i can’t buy a car in FN & then take it into OSRS. i can’t buy a cosmetic in Roblox & take it into CS… i mean outside of straight up destroying the games flow & aesthetic, this would simply be IMPOSSIBLE to balance this made no sense in 2019 & it makes no sense today

TODAY, the value of blockchains in gaming is not NFTs (at least not how the everyday person thinks about them) or interoperability or any other branding attempt or nonsensical jargon the value of BLOCKCHAINS in gaming is: >real-money in-game trading >streamlined payments, UGC &/or other novel smart contract applications >decentralized public infrastructure in addition to the above, the value in FULLY ONCHAIN games is: >permisonless UGC & endless mods IT’S NOT: >cross-chain >interoperability >ecosystem plays >custodial ownership >tokens >metaverse garbage

how /animarising uses interoperability tho none of our players will ever know about it we have an all-item in-game marketplace & we have a cosmetic-only in-game marketplace they are each individual app-specific orbit chains that stand on their own, tho we can use the same standards across all in-game items as the ecosystems are interoperable this means that players can buy materials on exchange A, craft a cosmetic item with them, and then sell that item on exchange B under different conditions further we can deploy exchange A & exchange B at different times & with different permissions this allows us to offer things like first-time sales on exchange B, such as partnership skins or what have you, while still maintaining a fully locked ecosystem of items on exchange A (where first-time sales don’t exist as all-items ex. cosmetics are extracted from the in-game world & are not purchased from us, the developers)

Totally hear you, and I agree assets jumping between games is still a bit far off in terms of practicality BUT I think the first step towards interoperability is simply logging in with a wallet instead of email. It’s small, but getting players to use wallets seamlessly could be a game-changer for video games in the long run. 🔑 Curious how you’re handling wallet logins for Animale with UE? 👀 100 $DEGEN

I agree, this was always a bit stupid narrative to push when promoting web3 games. The only thing where this might be beneficial (IMO) is to re-assure the longevity of the in-game items. i.e. we have NFT primitives that allow you to add multiple context-aware assets, so for example 2D sprite, 3D model, etc. All on one NFT. This can potentially help in a niche case where the ecosystem has multiple games in different style so you can use the same character in 2d side scroller as well as 3D 3rd person sim/shooter. But again, this is very very niche use case
