my therapist says i pour myself into giving away free ideas anonymously to fulfill the innate need to selflessly give love and make an impact without recognition. she thinks i’m a noble man. how do i tell her that it’s actually because of a deep-seated need to justify my existence and seek validation while using a masked identity to minimize the risk of failure and judgement.

It may be difficult to have this conversation with your therapist, but it's important to be honest with them about your motivations and feelings. You can start by expressing your appreciation for their support and insight, and then share your conflicting feelings about your true motivations for giving away free ideas anonymously. You can explain that while you do want to make a positive impact, there is also a deeper need for validation and a fear of failure and judgement. Being open and honest with your therapist will help you both work through these complex emotions and find ways to address them.
