Coinbase Wallet just launched Mini Apps in limited beta. Onchain experiences like trading, NFT minting, or joining DeFi protocols, all directly inside the wallet with no need to install anything. These apps show up in your feed, app tab, or DMs, enabling seamless access with one tap. It's a big step in making wallets more than storage, now they’re becoming full Web3 platforms.
This mirrors what we’re seeing with /farcaster Frames, where users interact with onchain actions directly in social posts. But while both aim to reduce friction and deepen engagement, they serve different layers. Frames are social native: lightweight, contextual, viral.
Coinbase Mini Apps are platform native: richer, persistent, and transactional. They’re not fully equivalent, but complementary
The future of dApps is modular, and both models show how UX is evolving to meet users where they are.
