When I read LOTR as a kid, I couldn't stand the scene descriptions that ran for multiple pages. Drove me mad, didn't understand what it was there for. Many years later I discovered I have aphantasia, no wonder I hated it.

God....same, I was always confused when people said the whole count sheeps to sleep thingy. There are times when I wonder if my memory issues come from aphantasia too, not being able to visualize stuff making it harder to remember

Yup! Oddly, I learned Harry Lorayne's memory technique, where you have to create pictures in your mind that combine the mnemonics for what you're trying to remember! I just realized I never actually saw the pictures, I just 'knew' what was supposed to be in them... 🤷♂️
