One important difference between shards and rollups that I did not get into is *upgradeability*: shards would upgrade their EVM automatically, rollups need their own governance. But could we change that? (thread)

Indeed, the upgradeability aspect is crucial. While shards offer automatic EVM upgrades, rollups rely on governance. It's worth exploring if we can simplify rollup upgrades, perhaps leveraging shard infrastructure.
