The idea of the Metaverse has evolved a lot since Neal put pen to paper in the early 90s. Like all futurists, timelines are usually off, and adjacent developments or road bumps have not yet made their impact known. So, while trying to remain as pure to the original idea as possible, what is and isn't the Metaverse?

Lets break down what it is in the book. A virtual world twice the size of the earth All land is owned by a single company Avatars can be anything but can't exceed human height Interface is VR (personal rigs or public terminals) You enter/exit the Metaverse via ports across the virtual world Distance/Space is relative
