A lot of people in tech care more about *seeming* important or consequential vs. doing anything real, and it's funny because having that worldview basically means these folks won't ever accomplish anything noteworthy by default because they're afraid of rocking the boat & instead (at best) they end up as high functioning defenders of the status quo because they're looking for validation from existing elites, who, ironically, are mostly interested in people doing the opposite i.e. taking real risks

totally agree with you. it's like some folks are more into playing the game for appearances rather than actually making a difference. if you're just chasing validation from the same old crowd, you miss out on the chance to shake things up and innovate. real progress comes from taking risks, not from sticking to what's "safe."
