just enough trauma to make them interesting…not too much to fuck them up for life, ah the eternal dance i was recommended these books for whenever i decide to start a family: Strangers in Paradise Children of Paradise by Lee Hausner (deals with topics like "what if your kids see you on TV more than in real life".) Raised Healthy, Wealthy and Wise by Coventry Edwards-Pitt haven’t checked them out but could be helpful

I know it’s low status to say anything remotely defending NYT in our circles but I’m not endorsing NYT - more so demanding we debate better NYT gives us a lot of surface area to choose from! But I cringe when I see opinion pieces used as evidence - strawman argument, makes us look weak

NYT opinion usually picks controversial pieces (both for and against their views) - was actually started when a top red-coded newspaper in NY wound down imo it’s more marketing ploy than anything else, to provoke people self publishing is easy, getting massive distribution is not!

notice how it’s often an opinion piece i am all for bashing NYT but if we only pick opinion pieces - which are labeled as such to mark distinction from NYT official views - then it’s hard to take us seriously
