Does anyone here use RAL colors on a regular basis? Just came across them on a project and curious about their primary usage space. 

Also, their branding is confusing.

That would be my color stack as well. Although I also find Pantone incredibly cumbersome. Color fans are so expensive and fade over time. (I suppose this is accurate to the medium tho). 

It seems RAL may be more about colorways for physical materials - paint, powder coat, plastics.

Can’t say I’ve ever needed to. 

In print production I stick to Pantone and CMYK

For digital, I just use HSL and hex color gamuts rather than a particular standard.

Yes, I/we do sometimes, but it is not really intentional. 
Our customers/partners choose colors and they are mostly labeled as RAL tones. It’s easier than to choose the materials with the right color tone.
