I rarely stay in an Airbnb any more: quality is too inconsistent and it's too much work to find a good one. Hosts often feel more like landlords than hoteliers. I'll take a midwit median hotel over a roll of the dice.

One exception is staying in Venice at Merkle offsites (I don't have to do the work to find a good one, and it's fun to stay with the team). These are usually beautiful properties, but hosts have minmaxed their amenities to the bare minimum. Feels cheap and out of place.

Ahh thanks for the feedback. Agree that consistency matters. When you mention hosts feeling more like landlords rather than hoteliers, what specific experiences have led to that feeling?
