I was a U.S. Fulbright student in Turkey. My research focus and adviser were not particularly friendly to the Erdogan government. My host university had a long history of campus protests. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had been detained and deported by the Turkish government.

If this happened in Turkey or any other country outside the U.S. it would be massive international news with American media taking a “America is the only country with real free speech” approach It’s crazy how quickly the term “terrorist” has come to mean “anyone who disagrees with me” in America

We need to I Am Spartacus the administration right now, which is effectively just “guy standing up” meme expressing reasonable concerns.

Yeah, this one and the anti putin scientist that were grabbed imo are terrifying ( all instances are but those two really stand out as extra cruel)

It was choosing between the end of democracy and the end of democracy. And we chose the end of democracy.

Damn, I haven’t watched the full video with sound, I didn’t know the person filming was trying to speak to them, their insistence on ignoring him makes it more terrifying.. also the fact that they pulled up in 3 unmarked vehicles in plain clothes with their faces covered to accost her.. fucking terrifying
