Many mini apps I love (not calling anyone out) do not make very compelling use of their embed image: they are often a large, static, centered logo with text. These eat up vertical space in feed and get tiring when they are repeated. If your app goes viral with an embed like this, users are more likely to get annoyed and tune it out. If you could opt in to a more compact embed format, would you use it? What would it need to provide to be compelling?

I think the benefit of a normal 1.91:1 aspect ratio embed image(like framesv1) is that because it’s also used across other platforms, developers are more likely to have a banner that works there— I also think it looks a little nicer

This image will be scraped only once though right, so can't be updated once the link is shared?

Very interesting direction of thought. I personally think of / use Mini App CTA as a version Amazon "Buy-with-one-click". So I'd love the ability to design a pure "button" feel when we dont wanna go full image. Eg, imagine seeing stuff with this vibe in-feed, at the bottom of a informational cast:

Big agree. I struggle with building a compelling embed image experience. I don’t think making them more compact is the solution. I think highlighting tools to help devs make them better is. Which you and @deodad have been doing

Dumb thought: displaying frame previews like a link (or similar to a link) might not be the right design choice initially. People expect to see boring content in link previews - mostly because link previews are boring. Why not take a contrarian view and say that a frame should not be displayed as a link? Maybe a photo can link to a frame, or a video, or a token. I think it's hard for devs to build a preview that's aimed at being viewed lots of times with the same format without getting boring at some point. A good parallel is twitter / tiktok / polymarket embeds on news sites. Somehow they don't look like a link - they look more native. [end of dumb thought]

guilty - gonna fix that soon I didn't hate the collapsed frames V1 option, sometimes you just want the logo and the launch button sometimes I find myself not wanting to add the link to a post with picture or video cuz that vertical whole viewport cast is a bit much sometimes

I don't think size is the issue but staleness and repetition. Most embed images end up resembling ads: The first time you see it, maybe it piques interest, the second and nth time you gloss over it. I think making it easier for more interactive "images" could help. Make it easier for devs to create - attract screens (like arcades) - realtime information (live user counter) - maybe something like the old school <map> element that allows devs to define interactive regions Mobile game ads have gone to playable demos, some of which are kinda fun! And perhaps this interactive type could be opt-out for users who are either sensitive to movement or mobile bandwidth, and fallback to static images.

This highlights the importance for mini app builders to focus on creating dynamic, shareable moments that feel personalized rather than "one-size-fits-all" Doing so can add variety & freshness to the feed, making it more engaging & less repetitive without having to adjust the embed format
