Lately, I've been seeing a lot of this: "Stay up late, work like crazy, make a lot of money."
But the downsides of chronic sleep deprivation include:
Memory and cognitive problems
Increased risk of heart disease
Difficulty concentrating
Decreased physical performance
Increased risk of depression and anxiety
Reduced growth hormone secretion
Weight problems
Weakened immune system
Sure, you can make more money by sacrificing sleep. But when you lose your health down the line, you’ll end up spending that money on medical bills. And if the worst happens, that money won’t matter.
Speaking for myself, I’m not someone who loves to sleep a lot. If I didn’t need to, I wouldn’t sleep at all—I’d prefer to use my time more effectively. But I make sure to get the sleep I need because my health comes first.
So, work hard and strive for success, but never forget that no amount of money can restore your health. 1 reply
