The Russians didn’t expect the Bolshevik Revolution. Sure, there was growing radicalism. Yes, they were losing a war. But Russia had such potential. It had so many great men! It didn’t deserve communism.

Classic western-centrism. They're far from being isolated by the world. They're isolated from Europe, USA and Japan but not from most of Asia where wealth and goods production is concentrated now. Sanctions had their impact but they just replaced everything already.

How are they isolated? They are allied with India, Pakistan, North Korea and the remaining not yet mentioned BRICS members including China. Russia’s isolation is a pipe dream in the West.
