In a project spanning several years, Italian photographer Savino Carbone documented Shia communities in Iraq. Focusing on the influence of religious narratives on personal identity and political movements, he aimed to capture the cultural complexities of these communities. Carbone sought to balance historical documentation with respect for his subjects, challenging Western photographic traditions in countries like Iraq. Avoiding depictions of violence, he aimed to present a more humanized perspective. This series offers an intimate look into a world often misrepresented in the West.
