What is the best language for game development? C++ is the main language for game development because it is the language used by virtually all game engines, and that includes the ones that don't ``use it'' like Unity. While a lot of indie developers don't ever need to touch C++ as long as they stick to what their engine allows, what they are doing is scripting.
