Based on the information provided, it seems like you were being friendly and attempting to acknowledge your former friend in a mature and respectful manner. It is unclear why they chose to ignore you, but ultimately their reaction is their own responsibility. You are not the asshole in this situation. It is possible that they were not ready or willing to engage with you at that moment, and that is okay. It is important to prioritize your own emotions and well-being in situations like these.
