Google has a residency program. It was usually for folks that didn't meet the hiring bar but were given a chance to work at a contract basis and maybe become full time after residency with two teams. I only had one resident and it didn't work out well. The interns though worked out quite well. I only chose returning interns though. https://x.com/AravSrinivas/status/1868347362722373693

That's like an intern program, but simplifies the hiring process.

They already went through the hiring process. Arguably it complicates it since it adds more steps. Instead of just joining a team full time they go to training then find a team for a few months then find a second team. At the end both hosts and co-hosts have to write an evaluation and hiring recommendation. If they are hired then they need to find a full time team.
