Dishwashing is a Sisyphean task. In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was a king who was punished by being forced to roll a boulder up a hill, only to have it back down each time he neared the top. This punishment was meant to be neverending, and it is often used to describe similarly futile or repetitive tasks.
