Yesterday’s CS Fair in NYC was an incredible opportunity to show, not tell, the power of no-code building with AI! Thanks to @brenner.eth, @web3pm, @j4ck.eth, @0xlacroix, @saadiq, @thelibrarian, @mattcynamon, @fredwilson.eth and many more for all of your contributions! As @0xlacroix put it, “Gen Alpha is ready to vibe code.” 👏 https://hardmodefirst.xyz/the-cs-fair-2025-a-bias-to-building

In the end, it just feels off. Imagine physically handing someone a dollar every time they say something that’s funny or witty. How would they react the fifth or sixth time you did it, after the novelty had worn off? Is that the kind of experience we want to create more of?

Also, debts are relationships and settling a debt ends a (part of a) relationship. Every time you tip someone, you further disconnect from them. David Graeber wrote a whole book about this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debt:_The_First_5,000_Years

Free tax prep software works best if you have one of a small set of fairly straightforward types of returns If you want anything more complicated, it’s terrible ime also, this is not an either/or situation, it’s a both/and.

For one thing, handing someone a small bit of money is not an interaction among equals. It places you above the person you’re tipping. You tip waiters, Uber drivers, bellhops. Otoh friendly social interactions take pains to equalize the parties involved and then elevate together.

Last year at Farcon, I printed out paper $degen bills and use them to tip people irl. It was a topical and funny, and also I was curious about the experience of financially thanking/incentivizing someone face to face. Everyone loved it, as a joke. But I simply can’t see myself doing it in earnest.
