i caught up with a friend of mine last night (36F) who i had always seen as a mentor / aspirational figure when i first met her at google in my early 20s, and though i love her to death i was shocked to hear how much fear she had about the future

she & her husband probably make $500k+ base, they spend $10k/mo on rent, have a 3 year old with a full time nanny but are always home for dinner as a family. yet she was worried about a potential new hire threatening the her work dynamic, how she and her husband feel trapped in the US with the new administration threatening europe (they're both EU citizens), one of them getting sick before her kid's bday party this weekend

becoming a founder has changed my brain - i have to orient towards optimism or there's no chance of success. being in crypto has changed my risk tolerance - the ups & downs of the market are just part of the journey, and there are always pros/cons to both

it's so valid for her to feel the way she does and i support her, but i also found my brain really struggling to make sense of the doom and gloom when there is so much to be grateful for every day
