Osman Hamdi Bey is a versatile figure as an archaeologist, educator, painter who happened to lead the inaugration of archaeology and fine arts in late Ottoman period, having singlehandedly founded the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. He also happened to lead the excavation that unearthed the Sarcaphagus of Alexander. He is my favorite Orientalist by trade. As per Callas, whereas I prefer Leyla Erbil over her I cannot stop thinking about the vinous quality of her voice.
