I guess this is cheaper than liking. :)

You are making a good point here. This could result in users leaving more comments instead of likes 🤔 I know for sure I should stop liking every reply others make to me, especially when I end up replying right back.

Do you really care though if your earlier likes get deleted?

It depends, maybe you use likes as bookmarks. Or maybe you are just really serious about your actions/data. Everyone is different I suppose. But for data scientists, having everything available is crucial to do accurate analysis.

Bookmarks can be implemented by clients without it being in protocol The data point is good; i wonder, if a hub runner can choose to store all data (never prune)? Seems like an implementation detail for the node without affecting the protocol? @v @dwr.eth

Yes, this is the general answer. Let clients and indexers fill the void, but I’m willing to bet that if Farcaster scales successfully, many users will be happy to pay to keep their data on the protocol forever. It just depends on what you value.

Don't think a lot of people care about storing/browsing their historical likes And if they do, they can always rent more units I see your point though that the reactions tab gets filled much faster than the other two

One solution is to separate storage units for casts, follows and reactions. It’s clear that right now most ppl are only close to hitting the limit on reactions.

Could see this working if one can pay (lower amt) to fill any of the three baskets on top of the bundled storage unit Kind of a power user feature

That’s exactly what I was thinking but maybe there are reasons why that might not be a good idea. I do know that Merkle will make adjustments if needed https://github.com/farcasterxyz/protocol/discussions/98

If the use case for likes is varied enough, it’s also probably fair to say it’s not useful for data analytics other than just a meta count
